Falls Church, Va. - Due to the tragic events caused by Hurricane Katrina, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) announced this week that it has relocated its annual meeting to San Francisco, Calif., and moved the dates to Aug. 26-30, 2006.
"Our hearts go out to all of those affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and to all of our colleagues in the New Orleans area who had worked so hard to host this event next year," said David E. Smithkey, CLU, RFC, NAIFA's president. "Circumstances left us no choice but to move our annual convention to another city."
Normally held the second week of September, the 2006 NAIFA Convention and Career Conference has been moved up in the calendar because the traditional dates were not available at key destinations. "The shift in dates may work out nicely for those attending the convention," pointed out John Davidson, LUTCF, NAIFA's president-elect and chair of its 2006 convention committee. "Concluding the convention the Wednesday before Labor Day weekend provides attendees with the opportunity to combine holiday plans with an extended stay in the San Francisco Bay area."
The San Francisco Marriott will extend discounted convention room rates for up to three nights before and after the convention.
NAIFA's annual convention, one of the largest meetings in the financial services industry, attracts nearly 2,500 of the nation's top insurance agents and financial advisors. Besides conducting association business, agents and advisors attend the meeting to network and educate themselves on new sales techniques, products and services in the marketplace, and NAIFA advocacy programs designed to promote and protect the business interests of its members.
